Agnes Martin was a remarkable women. She was an artist who went through a lot in her life. She was no stranger to pain, yet painted such beautiful images. John Green states in his podcast, Works of Art by Agnes Martin and Hiroyuki Doi, “They paint the feeling of beauty that survives the world’s ugliness and the innocence that cannot be wholly crushed by experience.” This disrupted me because something being beautiful to survive the world’s ugliness to me means more of the resolve inside of a person. To me the beauty is this resolve to stand against every bad thing thrown their way. Whether that be harsh words, abuse, racism, or a multitude of many other problems. This resolve would mean being able to stand up in the face of these or being strong enough to handle these situations which shows their beauty. However with this comes the ability to not be crushed by these horrible problems which comes with innocence. Being able to stay happy or in a good mental state in the face of these problems would require a lot of strength from that person, thus requiring a better interpretation or in this case innocence. Overall it is up to how a bad situation is handled which shows how beauty and innocence comes out of it.
